What is Arimatsu Shibori?

Shibori is one of the oldest dye techniques in Japan that uses a variety of fine techniques to create beautiful colors and patterns. Shibori designs are generally more detailed and complex than conventional tie dye.

Arimatsu-shibori originated 400 years ago in Arimatsu-cho, Midori-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. It’s been preserved and passed down through the generations to the present day. While shibori dyeing is found in many parts of the world, only Arimatsu-shibori combines hundreds of different techniques to create a finely crafted shibori. Arimatsu-shibori, dyed in a variety of colors to create beautiful patterns, is the very spirit of the Japanese people.
